Hi , Here is the follow up email for Friday's National Call for Safe Technology. First, a replay of call: https://youtu.be/2q2JLe2bHtQ DISCUSSION ITEMS - After asking some new comers to introduce themselves on the
call, Hank Allen from Idaho shared some wonderful wins with us.
- Following the discussion that ensued during Hank's time, Odette covered initiatives, agency hearings, webinars, articles of interest, and industry tripe. We will include the initiatives here upcoming events below,
however any additional information or past hearings, please see the attached agenda.
SPEAKERS/GUESTS - PLEASE READ - THIS IS URGENT: Ellie Marks told us about
information passed on from Monica Ferrulli, whose son Mason was a student at Weston elementary in Ripon, CA and was diagnosed at nine with a brain tumor about four years ago (along with other students and teachers diagnosed with cancer). Everyone worked so hard to get the cell phone tower removed from school grounds, and the school board was uncooperative- it took a student strike to finally get it turned off. AT&T then proposed a tower site close to
the school, but hundreds of parents wrote in with concerns and the county denied it. Now, AT&T has appealed and proposed a new site (same property owners, just further away) about 1,300 feet from the school - that has been APPROVED. Community members have until the 28th to appeal. They are planning on doing so, but unsure on what
grounds? Please provide input ASAP if you have helpful suggestions! They can be provided to Ellie here: cabraintumor@gmail.com
- Kelly Marcotulli
then gave us an update on the Ashland City Council's consideration of pro-telecom oridinances: At the Ashland City Council Study Session this past Monday, Odette Wilkens, President & General Counsel of a non-profit, Wired Broadband, Inc., offered her analysis of the currently proposed ordinance draft, which is clearly pro-Telecom. The draft ordinance strips the city of predetermining the placement of small cell antenna (5G). With Ms. Wilkens expertise as an attorney, practicing for over 20 years in drafting and negotiating technology agreements, the Council was captivated by her thorough and expert
censure of the flawed report. Their ensuing discussion, which took place the following night, proved that the Council has been listening to our pleas for a comprehensive and protective ordinance around telecommunications installations. - Donna Ott in Pennsylvania gave an update on a hearing last Tuesday in her city where experts were trying to encourage the adoption of protective local ordinances. One of the thing they're up against in the entire state is the ALEC bill. Odette had good idea to write rejoinder in order to set the record straight and Donna mentioned they will be creating this and sending
it to all the municipalities throughout the entire state via email.
