Hi
Here is a replay of the National Call for Safe Technology from Friday, February 17th: https://youtu.be/-bqozrzJ9SU
ACTION ITEMS / EVENTS /
UPDATES
- Odette followed up on a suggestion to change the
National Call for Safe Technology meeting from every two weeks to the first and third Fridays of each month. Most people on the call seemed to prefer to keep it the way it is now. If you have feedback on this, let us know!
- Courtney Gilardi in Pittsfield, MA gave an
update on hearing postponement:
- Irene's recap of MAHB Amicus Brief:
- The
Massachusetts Association of Health Boards (MAHB) letter of Amicus Curiae (document) that was submitted two days before the originally-scheduled Feb. 14th hearing on 2/12/2023 6:51 PM EST called out the following that gave rise to its interest amicus curiae:
- that the MAHB has followed this case closely since before its inception
- that the Pittsfield Board of Health (PBOH) and its members
are a nominal defendant [re Docket No. 2276–CV–00127 in the matter of Pittsfield resident and counsel legal action v Verizon et al.]
- that the underlying Show Cause Order by the PBOH was well-reasoned and not arbitrary or capricious
- that the Order was rescinded as a result of coercion of other over-reach by the Mayor and City Council –– or worse
- that the actions of the City Council in withholding counsel is troublesome
- that boards of health are empowered to respond quickly and knowledgeably to public health emergencies where a rapid response can prevent a bad situation from worsening
- that this authority can be exercised without reference to the approval or disapproval of a mayor or any other
governmental authority
- that the Plaintiff’s Memorandum in Opposition to Dismiss is excellent briefing
- that the defendants’ motion to dismiss must be denied
- that this case must be allowed to proceed in orderly litigation
- David DeHaas with Idahoans For Safe Technology let us know they just got two more towers denied!
- Find more information on their success here: https://wireamerica.org/id/dominoes-falling/
- David says the key is
continuing to educate our local/state representatives - continuing to be around the politicians - making political connections and helping to put new people in office
- He also said it's important on any hearing for a tower to take your own readings. They went to several points in the geographic coverage and made cell calls on the phones of the applicant. Also to note on the last tower they defeated, the applicant was a broadband provider and
not a wireless provider. You don’t have to approve any broadband provider. Put your own measurements in the record!
- Odette update in NY:
- Odette and others, including Theodora from EHT, are still
working on getting community boards across NYC to disapprove or declare a moratorium on huge three story tall 5G jumbo antennas.
- They have been successful with a number of community boards -
and unsuccessful with some.
- They're now putting together a town hall - and a series of town
halls - to get the public and politicians educated on these issues.
- Neil from the UK gave an update on Mansfield
case because Karen had to leave.
- The hearing went on for a day and a half - and as of Friday -
the decision is still pending - the Decision could take three weeks, possibly longer.
- Michael Mansfield (well known human rights lawyer) spoke for
five hours regarding the fact that not only is the government not accepting risk, it's denying it completely. He covered the role of the government and its relationship with the public and informing the public properly of the risk because he couldn't challenge scientific evidence behind ICNRP's recommendations
- The facts aren't investigated properly by the court because the
judges feel they aren't able to penetrate the information properly.
- Here’s a report on the action against 5G Uk case: https://dailysceptic.org/2023/02/14/5g-has-its-day-in-court/
- Neil also let us know about his case against the Isle of Wight
Council in the UK High Court on jurisdictional grounds after it dismissed the right of objectors to object to 5G antennae being mounted on the roof of its County Hall His case now has the support of a planning law barrister - and they're stance is that local counsels have jurisdictional responsibility to protect public. pursing my case
- This hearing is on March 9th - Neil will keep us
updated.
- There are openings at EPA
and other agencies in case someone would like to get on the "inside"! Please see the agenda for additional updates and news.
SPEAKERS / GUESTS
- Mary Anne Tierney told us about the Unplugged Collaborative's GLOBAL Day of
Unplugging March 3rd to 4th - sunset to sunset!
- Find out more here: https://www.unplugcollaborative.org/
- Originally, the Unplugged Collaborative recommended smart apps to help people unplug, but Mary Anne
called them and they are now acknowledging that screentime AND wireless is a part of the issue!!
- Mary Anne urges all of us to consider how we can celebrate by spreading awareness and encouraging
people to unplug for those 24 hours.
- You can do an event, advertise this event, and come up with something to include others and
affirm this international event.
- Mary Anne shared a flyer she made for a "tech Sabbath" (attached) as inspiration and says we can
borrow anything we'd like
- Bill Bathgate went over portions of his
presentation on NY Sentate Bill SB.8765 and also answered questions.
- Bill found out that there is a separation distance in the
letters of authorization equipment grant for these "smart meters" that is 20 centimeters - about 7.8 inches - which the companies don't mention.
ADDITIONAL ITEMS
- UPDATE: Dr. David Carpenter, distinguished professor at the State University of Albany and an international expert on health damages caused by PCBs who is under attack by Monsanto (which is now owned by Bayer) was restored to his position at University of
Albany! Below are the email from Community Partnerships Program Director Rebecca Martin:
- "In just two weeks with your support, Dr. David Carpenter's full academic status is restored! What an
incredible outcome. Thank you. Our press conference on Thursday will be cancelled, though we will keep our Thursday evening 6pm member call in place in order to celebrate this great victory. Brava! A note from Judith Enck: It was just over two weeks ago that the Albany Times Union ran a front page story about Dr. David Carpenter being kicked out of the classroom after a series of Freedom of Information Requests filed by Monsanto. We all mobilized. Tonight we
submitted the attached letter from over 2,000 people. We zoomed. We researched. We strategized. We wrote. We called. And now, we won. More importantly Dr. David Carpenter and academic freedom won. This evening, Dr. Carpenter reached an agreement, as outlined in this Albany Times Union article. "UAlbany says PCB researcher may resume teaching on campus" Our planned news conference for this Thursday has been cancelled. But, we will still keep our Thursday 6pm
zoom meeting so we can reflect on what happened and how we all were part of it. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DID. "Activism is the rent you pay for living on this planet," said Alice Walker. Cheers, Judith"
