SPEAKERS / GUESTS
No guest speakers this week. Odette started off the call with a Happy Birthday to Courtney
Gilardi, including big kudos to Courtney and her daughter, Amelia, for their stamina in keeping up the fight in Pittsfield, MA against the Verizon cell tower that has driven them from their home.
Although Courtney couldn’t be on the call, she had a few announcements for us:
“We are calling all the children who have either been injured by a cell tower, or care about the cell tower/ EHS
issue who would like to be interviewed for a youth roundtable discussion. Please send names to courtneygilardi@yahoo.com
“Sept. 29 2023 was the 3rd anniversary of Pittsfield residents being harmed, injured or displaced from the 877 South Street Verizon cell tower. The best way folks can support is to
like, follow and comment on the Pittsfield Cell Facebook page, Pittsfield Cell Tower Concerned Citizens or donate at https://www.gofundme.com/f/z9ze96-stop-the-tower”
Odette shared what happened when she went to DC the previous week to meet with lawmakers about the dangerous telecom bills. She attended the Energy and Commerce hearing, went to 20 offices and made some good connections. She also discovered the appropriate people to connect with in the near future. One of her
questions: “Why are you ignoring 5G when it comes to the cyber security bills?”
Odette commented that the digital divide is guaranteed due to the built in obsolescence of wireless devices and the sunsetting of technologies.
The DOJ is in the process of reexamining what disabilities will be accommodated, focusing on how people can best access computers and other equipment.
They are defining the disabled to be those people with visual, hearing, cognitive, or physical impairment. We would like them to include the EHS disabled.
“The Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued a notice of proposed rulemaking under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that aims to improve web and mobile applications (apps) access for people with disabilities and clarify how
public entities, primarily state and local governments, can meet their existing ADA obligations as many of their activities shift online.”
Odette prepared a response to the Dept. of Justice (DOJ) notice of proposed rulemaking under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). She requested sign-ons and received many responses. The document was submitted by the October 3rd deadline.
A sub-committee of The National Call has been meeting weekly to discuss the issues of the EMS disabled and how we can be most effective in messaging and advocacy.
We had a lively discussion about how to best educate the public about wireless disabilities. Ruth Moss, Nancy Van Dover, Michael Muadin, Mary Bauer, Doe Kelly and others added their perspective. It was pointed out that EHS is actually a
“spectrum of environmental illnesses” and EHS can exacerbate already underlying conditions such as chronic fatigue, Lyme and a host of others. When we focus on the symptoms and how they manifest themselves from exposure to electromagnetic fields, or how certain conditions are made worse from this exposure, we can help more people understand the condition of EHS. Nancy mentioned that people shouldn't have to make all their symptoms public, especially in federal submissions.
Ruth discussed her efforts for branding so the general public can better understand electromagnetic illness. Michael is working on an informational tool kit for EHS accommodations. A leadership council to further develop the concept of branding is in the works.
Nicholas Martin and the UK update: He discussed the problems with the “Net Zero” concept, as it uses a huge amount of
electromagnetic energy, which is also heating the atmosphere. The process is taking a long time, but we are slowly educating the public that wireless energy (RFR) is harmful. He mentioned that we can refer to the Rasmussen study which is similar to the National Toxicology Program Study.
Charles Frohman, lobbyist with the National Health Federation gave us an update on his recent discussions
with important players on Capitol Hill. He reminded us that we can all take quick action at: https://thenhf.com/campaigns/
From Charles: “It’s REALLY easy to do for anyone is input their zip code at the bottom of NHF's alert against the wireless bill. We need LOTs of emails to
politicians!
When you go to the NHF campaign page, it’s the first take action campaign listed. “Don't let Telecom Ignore Local Rights! Americans Demand the Right to Retain LOCAL Powers to Deny Wireless Antennas and to Require Environmental and Historical Reviews.”
