As we expected, legislators still want to pass HR 2289. Rep. Carter (GA) presses on with HR 2289. We're not sure which path he'll
take - split off part of the bill, roll it into a must-pass bill, or reintroduce 2289 to the Rules Committee. Either way, we need to be vigilant in stopping HR 2289, and we'll keep you posted. HR 6503, a paired down version of HR 2289, also needs to be opposed, especially if HR 6503 is sneaked in to replace HR 2289. It would strip
environmental safety reviews and historic preservation reviews of cell tower sitings, cutting out the public and local zoning laws. Let's also oppose HR 6503. To continue our wall of opposition, please continue to contact your federal Representative, even if you've already contacted them. CLICK HERE or https://actionnetwork.org/letters/stop-telecom-overreach/ to tell your member of Congress to stop this legislation, whether as HR 2289 or as HR
6503. Also, call your Representative and Senators -- see GovTrack.com for telephone numbers. Message: Please oppose HR 2289 and HR 6503 because (1) we don’t want cell towers installed in front of our homes, children’s bedrooms and our schools, and (2) we don’t want big government in Washington DC taking away our local rights on if
or where to install cell towers.” If you'd like to contact Rep. Carter (GA), but you are not a constituent, an example of what you can say, in addition to the above message: “I am representing the interests of your constituents and your vote not only affects your constituents, but all Americans across the country on this issue, including me, my family, my friends and my community. Forward this email to your family and friends, and your email lists. Best of luck, and let's keep HR 2289 and HR 6503 off the House calendar. |
