NYC's 5G MEETING Wed, Nov 29, 2023 2:00-3:30 PM |
- We're trying out a new name for our group: NYC Alliance Against 5G Towers. Let us know what you think.
- Follow up on Sec 106 review and updates; updated reference document (attached). See more info below.
- Upcoming educational outreach - community board meetings: MCB3, MCB7, MCB12, BkCB5, BkCB12, BkCB16, BxCB2, BxCB5, BxCB7, SICB1, SICB3 (see attached list of Equity Districts getting the most 5G
towers).
- Update on legislative response on federal bills that threaten to eliminate local control over wireless permitting/placement, prohibit moratoria and eliminate NEPA and NHPA reviews.
- List of NY Congressional delegation - identify your US Representatives; set up meetings in the next two weeks. See fact sheets on the relevant bills that are being fast tracked in Congress and the Senate. It's important to educate the City Council, NYS legislators, and the NYC
delegation of US Reps and Senators on the issues.
- Upcoming Town Halls: 5G Cybersecurity and Privacy Vulnerabilities, Monitoring of NYC Wireless Radiation Levels, Environmental Hazards, Adverse Bio-Effects and Health Outcomes, Fire Hazards of Cell Towers, etc.
It's important to apply as a consulting party ASAP because you may only comment within 30 days after CityBridge
submits its information to the NY State Historic Preservation Office. When you apply, you will be informed if you are still within the alotted time or if you've missed the deadline. The process is moving very quickly. When applying you must show a
"demonstrated interest," e.g., how you're engaged in preserving your neighborhood, that the tower is close to your building/area. Organizations are more easily accepted than individuals. When preparing your analysis of why the 5G tower is inappropriate in your area, your analysis must be robust and substantive. It is not sufficient to say you don't want it in that location. See the Sec 106 reference guide attached for more ideas.
